Steve O'Dell and I had the opportunity to attend the Nucleus conference at Kensington Church in Troy. We had a great time and were both thoroughly challenged. I know more will be shared about this in the months to come, but I wanted to share an initial thought.
People who are visiting 2|42 and our cell groups are searching and asking profound questions. In every case, we are all broken people and searching for something or someone to fix the brokenness we feel inside. As cell leaders it is easy to get caught up in wanting to have all the right answers and wanting to fix others. But that is not our duty, responsibility, call or even within our skill set to do. Our job is to embody the Way of Jesus in our own life and to introduce others to the God who put on flesh. After we make the introductions, it is our job, and I'd add freedom, to step back and get out of the way. Jesus is the only one in the business of changing and healing lives - and in the words of Alan Hirsch (one of the speakers at Nucleus), Jesus is pretty good at it too.
So release yourself from the burden of trying to fix others and instead be consumed with the mission of helping others meet the same Jewish carpenter who has radically changed your own life.
