Even though the Big Give isn't until Sunday, I don't think it is too early to celebrate what a blessing this series has been to so many people in our community, including me.
Our groups have gain so much momentum through this series, the group dialogue has been challenging and it has motivated people and marriages to do more, be more and take generous next steps with God! In my own group, everyone is taking next steps in their obedience to tithe, to get on a budget, to recognize God's ownership of everything and to get out of debt. This Generosity series has been the catalyst for many of them to realize how they've been lulled to sleep by the American Dream, even become slaves to it, and consequently missed the fullness of God's mission in their lives.
What I love about this Dave Ramsey stuff is that it is profoundly simple. It is a simple truth (i.e. get out of debt), that has profound ramifications in our lives (i.e. no longer being a slave to the lender, being more generous, etc). So much of life boils down to simple truths, that though they take discipline to live out, they have a profound impact in our lives.
One of the new couples in our group has really be impacted by the series, the husband told me over the weekend that, "What I love about this series is that the church really cares about me and wants me to do well for myself. It is cool to be in a church that cares about everyday issues."
I can't wait for the Big Give this weekend and I can't wait to see where God takes 2|42 as we continue to be Christ in our community.
