The Bible talks in James 1|22-24 about the importance of hearing God's Word and not forgetting what we've heard but putting it into action. According to an article I found we evidently remember,
  • 10% of what we read
  • 20% of what we hear
  • 30%of what we see
  • 50% of what we see & hear
  • 70% of what we discuss with others.
  • 80% of what we personally experience
  • 95% of what we teach others
If that's true, and I believe it is, then people that aren't connected beyond Sunday morning are likely only retaining approximately 20% of the message they hear. Is it any wonder most churches struggle to make disciples who make disciples? However if they join a cell group where the message is discussed their retention increases a whopping of 350% over just listening to the Sunday morning message. If they actually apply what they learn and discussed together which they are encouraged in our groups to do they retain 80%. Notice that the greatest learning benefit comes when group members become cell group leaders.

"But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives Freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard but doing it-he will be blessed in what he does." James 1|25
